Green design is building science, applying the best products and practices to achieve the desired outcome of how energy efficient you would like your home to be. There are many cost effective upgrades such as (insulation and air sealing) or Net Zero (tight house/healthy/solar/energy neutral) design, build, consultation by appointment.
It's not rocket science - it's building science. I can consult and advise you from start to finish on how to build an affordable energy efficient home that meets and exceeds NC building codes - how green is up to you and how many solar panels go on at the end.
I can help you achieve a low HERS number (3rd party energy rating) down around the teens if you like. Energy Star 3.0 or NGBS (National Home Builders Assoc) ... I understand the programs and technologies and have worked with some of the top builders and sub-contractors who have been doing this for some time now.
YES ... You can build a small healthy home and experience low energy bills.
There are proven products and techniques most builders don't tell you about that make a big difference ... 2x6 walls @ 2 foot on center, structural walls (DOW or ZIP), insulation strategy, air sealing, site orientation, appropriate over hangs on the south side, fresh air returns, passive and active solar, energy star, etc ... Does it cost more? YES a little more up front (10-20% on average) to save LOTS more $$$ in the end. Interested?
